About WildWatch Japan

Welcome to WildWatch Japan!

WildWatch Japan is an independent wildlife project dedicated to sharing the wildlife, birds, and biodiversity of Japan with people around the world.

I am a Japan-based wildlife photographer and field observer. I regularly explore forests, mountains, wetlands, coastlines, and islands across Japan, observing and photographing wild animals in their natural habitats.

My field experience extends from Hokkaido to the southern islands of Japan. I have observed Red-crowned Cranes, Steller’s Sea Eagles, and White-tailed Eagles in Hokkaido, Crested Ibises on Sado Island, Japanese Serows and other wildlife in the mountains of Honshu, Snow Monkeys in Nagano, and Amami Rabbits on Amami Oshima.

These firsthand experiences are at the heart of WildWatch Japan.

The wildlife observations and original photographs featured throughout this site are based on my own time in the field. Alongside species guides, I share practical information about wildlife watching in Japan, including where and when to see animals, what I experienced during my visits, and what travelers, photographers, and wildlife watchers should know before heading into the field.

My goal is simple: to help people discover, understand, and appreciate Japan’s wildlife through real field experience, practical information, and original photography.

I also share wildlife videos on YouTube and run a Japanese-language wildlife blog based in Tochigi, where I publish local wildlife guides, field reports, and observations from across Japan.

Thank you for visiting WildWatch Japan. I hope this site helps you discover more of Japan’s incredible wildlife.
